Backing Brooke Shive in her quest to bring their fantastic mixture of Americana, rock, blues, soul & country to the mainstream of American music, are the fabulous 45's. They are the only father/daughter act in popular music today!!
Providing the backbone of the group is drummer, Steve Shive. Throughout his career as a sideman and session player for artists such as Tim Moore, Daryl Hall, Kingfish, Jimmy Jamieson, Robbie Dupree, David Lindley and producers Ken Scott, Joe Hardy, Nick Jameson, and Tom Marolda.
Steve is one of the finest drummers playing today. His first love musically was always American rock'n roll, blues, soul, R&B and country.
During a hiatus from the music business, he took time to raise a family. He never had an inkling that Brooke would grow up and become interested in putting a band together with her father. "I always dreamed of putting a band together and sharing that experience of writing, recording and touring with my daughter by my side, and my whole family for that matter. That dream has come true. The icing on the cake is that I have two musicians in Jim and Randall along with our songwriting partners, Rick Stallard and lyricist George Tiboni who are not only fantastic musicians, but great friends and really tremendous people and family men as well."
Laying down the funk and bottom for the 45's is bassist and backing vocalist Jim Gilheany.
Jim, a veteran in the Philadelphia/New Jersey blues and roots music scene, has toured and shared the stage with blues legends Lonnie Shields, Sonny Rhodes and most notably, Rick Danko of The Band. In addition, as a member of New Jerseys stunning Kings in Disguise, with Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth (a frequent guest artist with the 45's), Jim has opened up for heralded acts such as Van Morrison, Taj Mahal, Steely Dan, Dr.John, and Don Henley.
Holding down the guitar is the very gifted and soulful Randall Thompson. Randall has played with numerous bands over the years, including slide master Billy Goodman, Steve Kimock, the Cole Younger Band and Goodwood. He has been one of the best kept secrets on the scene, but as a member of the 45's certainly will not remain so for long. Another great performer appearing frequently with the band, is the phenomenal Jay Davidson. Jay is a gifted sax and keyboard player who also plays harmonica and backing vocals. He has toured and recorded with to many artists to mention, but a few; Steve Winwood, Billy Preston, The Funk Bros., Levon Helm, Daryl Hall.
Brooke Shive & The 45's put on a performance that remains unparalleled in the Philadelphia music scene. With a group of seasoned and consumate professionals laying down killer grooves behind the emotional, dynamic performer, Brooke Shive, the band is continuing to build a song list consisting of original material being written by Brooke and the songwriting team of Steve Shive, Jim Gilheany, Randall Thompson, George Tiboni & Rick Stallard. This relationship is fueling the band with very strong melodic and musical material, full of unique stories about love, loss, train robberies, strong & wild women. They play timeless music that speaks to a wide audience. Everything with Brooke Shive & The 45's revolves around choosing the right songs, and with that, audiences are left with no choice but to rejoice and revel in the bands performances!
